Indian multiplexes won’t be hit by telecom Reliance’s day-and-date film service ‘FDFS’. “Besides pricing, content is the ultimate crowd puller, and good content-oriented films have drawn massive audiences at multiplexes.”
Indian multiplexes have made clear that they won’t screen any film released day-and-date on OTT platforms after Reliance Industries Limited’s Jio Fibre announces its First Day First Show service (but no film titles). We’ve been here before with Netflix and others elsewhere.
Reliance Jio plans to bring home the movie watching experience, by allowing its premium customers to stream the movies on the day of the release at the comfort of their homes through JioFiber.
Even if Jio manages to get the massive content and screening rights required for this, going to theaters is still an activity which customers take part in for the sake of the experience of meeting with friends, having popcorn and watching the movie surrounded by cheers on the big screen.
Change is the only permanent. With every change, the Industry is due to feel the heat but it needs to transform for better.
